Insomnia, Twitter, Mars & the iPhone

I couldn’t sleep last night. Probably had something to do with spending the weekend in New York - New York hours and all….so I played some Fifa, caught up on the news from my iPhone (Digg, CNN, /., etc) and then remembered something I randomly stumbled upon on my way to NYC a few days ago.

I had found the new Phoenix Mars Lander twitter page and left it open in Safari on my iPhone in order to start following/reading MarsPhoenix whenever I actually remembered.

I spent the next few minutes reading the updates from MarsPhoenix - with 17,059 followers and 176 updates spanning almost a month (May 7 inaugural post) it was pretty interesting.

And then I found this tweet:

Lots of good info in today’s news briefing. You can listen to recording at (866) 380-6745 or on web (mp3 file) at http://tinyurl.com/3svxrb 01:36 PM June 02, 2008 from web

With a touch of my finger, my iPhone automatically dialed the number and I found myself lying in bed listening to different members of the academic community from the University of Arizona to other institutions discuss what was going on with Phoenix. The press conference was AMAZINGLY COOL and after the panelists finished talking about their findings thus far, I made a mental note to blog about Phoenix and  promptly went to sleep.

Thanks Twitter, NASA and AAPL.  Very cool implementation of Twitter - and great use on the iPhone.
