  • Kimon Kirk

Last week I had the good fortune to attend my good friend Kimon Kirk’s CD release party at The Lizard Lounge in Cambridge.

Kimon is an extremely talented musican who has been making strides over these many years and his debut album ‘Eye on You’ is pretty phenominal. I’ll post the link to purchase the album soon once it appears on iTunes.

During the show Kimon played a cover of Mark Sandman’s song Red Yellow (What’s Good for You). Mark Sandman was the lead singer/bass player for the Boston based band ‘Morphine’ and unfortunately for us, passed away July 3, 1999 while performing with ‘Morphine’ in Italy. I randomly had the chance to see Morphine play a show in an ice skating rink in Aspen, Colorado with my younger brother in 1996/97. Amazing band - amazing singer.

Today I received an email from Kimon with a link to this song. In order to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the untimely passing of Sandman,  The Mark Sandman Music Project is putting together a series of tribute recordings to be released each week during the course of the summer.

This song features Russell Chudnofsky on electric guitar, Ben Keyes on piano, Amy Fairchild on harmony vocals, and Andy Plaisted on drums.  All that’s asked is that you consider making a donation to The Mark Sandman Music Education Fund, about which more details can be found at hindry.com.
