Please don’t be shy
“If I have seen further it is only by standing on the shoulders of giants” - Isaac Newton
I have made it thus far because of the graciousness of friends, family, teachers and complete strangers to reach out a hand once and a while and lift me up over the course of my life. I cannot thank them enough and I do appreciate it. The only way I can ‘pay-it-back’ is by trying to help others if I can. Bijan’s post today could not have come at a better time time as I am in the midst of composing an email to him right now. :)
My friend Brad Feld wrote a helpful & constructive post recently, “Preparing For a First Meeting With Me”.
There is a lot of good stuff there.
I only have one thing to add.
Please don’t be shy.
I end up in more meetings than I would like with someone only to find out weeks later that they really wanted to ask me for help with a new job and never told me. Or they really need to raise a round but they didn’t want to look desperate or something.
Just tell me if you hate your job or if you need funding for your company or if you don’t know what you are doing or if you need to vent or if you are down or if you are pumped. Or whatever.
I can be much more helpful that way. And we’ll have a much better meeting.
Help me, help you :)
